Default Adrenaline Builds Discussion

Hey guys, I'm somewhat new to this forum, but not exactly new to Guild Wars. I was just curious if you guys were as reliant on adrenaline builds as I currently am. I generally switch between that and your basic Hundred Blades build.

Anyway, I'm just curious to see all the adrenaline builds that you guys feel are useful out there. As you would probably assume, any class combo goes.

Savage Slash
Battle Rage
Sever Artery
Gash
Galrath Slash
Bonetti's Defense
Final Thrust
Endure Pain

So what about you guys? Feel free to make suggestions.

Regarding builds, read the General Campfire Guidelines. They're easy to find yourself.

Regarding your build, it needs work. Some points:

-Endure Pain is useless. If you want a heal, take something that actually heals you, i.e, Lion's Comfort. Self heals are unnecessary these days so I'd forget about it.
-No IAS. You need something that increases your attack speed (by 33%, ideally) or the bar is bad. It's that simple. The IAS is the single most important thing you can bring, so not having it is inexcusable.
-Battle Rage. The problem is that it's a stance, which conflicts with all good IAS options because you can only have one stance up at a time. Refer to the most recent posts in the sticky for a more in depth discussion.
-Bonetti's Defense: What for? If you're trying to tank, you're doing it wrong. Warriors are damage machines. Do not spend attribute points or skill slots on block skills (it's also a stance, which conflicts with BR and the IAS you should be bringing). The energy boost does not justify using the skill.

...Looking at the bar again, you've only got Prophecies. The sticky contains some campaign specific builds.

For me, I've found a mix of energy and adrenaline skills to be the most effective. As a warrior, you don't have a ton of energy unless you've got Warrior's Endurance, so taking maybe 2-3 adrenaline skills helps a lot. I run Lion's Comfort for my healing since it alleviates the need for investment in Tactics, and then I run Sun-and-Moon slash and maybe 1 other attack, usually Standing Slash since I'm almost always in a stance.

As Marty said, having IAS really, really helps. As he pointed out, a warrior bar without IAS is significantly less effective than one with it. Stances usually require energy.

I've moved into Marty's camp on Endure Pain, as well. This skill used to have a more-or-less permanent spot on my skill bar, but I found that the times that I really, really wanted to use it were times when the battle was effectively over and we lost anyway, so I now take Asura Scan and just use that to wipe my death penalty instead. Or i skip both and take something else that lets me do more damage. As Marty was suggesting, the best way for a warrior to avoid taking damage is to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

The nice thing about a mix of energy and adrenaline skills is that you're basically always functional and pretty consistently effective. For me, the trick was finding the right balance so that I was able to maximize the amount of damage I do over time. It's a little more about strategy than the build ... the strategy drives the build for me and not the reverse (although the build drove the strategy before I started finding and capturing the best warrior elites ... 100b, Earthshaker, Dragon Slash).

Read the warrior guide in this forum. You'll learn a lot about the details of running a warrior. It will save you months of suckitude.

As for the original point (I got sidetracked there), an adrenaline build without:

* IAS
* FGJ!
* elite warrior skill like Dragon Slash or Earthshaker

just isn't optimal. It's not even close. The light from an optimal warrior adrenaline build will not hit your build for quite some time. You need to be able to generate a constant flow of adrenaline and IAS + FGJ is a great way to do that.

Thanks for the pointers, and I'm sorry this is still on the wall with the rules. I tried to make this into a discussion rather than just a "give me builds" thread. I know you guys look down upon them. I was trying to turn this into a "this is how I play" kind of thread.

Oh, and after I made this thread I realized how useless that site was. I made the mistake of following their guide on a solo ritualist build. Needless to say the build was a pile of garbage and I was outed 5 platinum and several hours of skill capping.

Thanks for the tips though, I'll be sure to rework my build.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are IAS and FGJ? I really appreciate the help you guys are giving but I've not played Guild Wars for a few years now and the abbreviations are all a foreign language to me.

IAS = Improved Attack Speed. This is things like Frenzy or Flail that increase the rate at which you can attack.
FGJ = "For Great Justice", a shout skill that doubles your adrenaline gain

I get confused by the acronyms, too.

And a "this is how I play" discussion is something that should always be welcome here, I would think. The game evolves, skills change, monsters change, and everyone's play style is a little different, so there should be something new to discuss every so often.
